Default Odd Grinding Sound at Low RPMs...

***2005 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab LM7 5.3L 2wd w/ 162k***

I have been searching for where the noise is coming from to no avail. It sounds exactly like metal scrubbing/grinding somewhere at low RPMs (1-1.5k) like just barely on the gas cruising or coming from a stop light. I sat in the passengers seat and had someone else drive around and you can more hear on that side more. I tried to get a video of it but wind noise ruined it. If you roll the windows down you can hear it VERY loudly. The thing that is weird is, it doesn't do it all the time, just at random times. I took it to a shop and they drove it 3 times and could not the noise to replicate itself so they could have something to go off of....

I have also tried searching around the internet and youtube for videos of a sound similar but no luck. I know without a video its hard to envision a "sound" but like i said wind noise killed that one.

Thanks for any help towards this issue. Its the only thing wrong with the truck so I would like to fix it to keep it reliable.

I've had various parts of the exhaust heat shielding make weird unnamable noises like that.

Try tapping on those.
