Default No Oil Pressure ???

I drove the truck a while this morning doing some errands. I made a stop and when I got back in and started the truck it starting dinging at me so I looked at the DIC and it was flashing a message that I had no oil pressure and the gauge was reading zero as well. I shut it down and checked for leaks and pulled the dipstick. The oil level was fine and I could not see any leaks. Anyway I tried it again and got the same result so I had it towed home.
I need to see if it is just a sensor or something else electronic. If anyone has any suggestions on what it might be or what I should check please let me know. I will poke around a little to see what I can find. Can someone tell me where the oil pressure sensor is on this engine? This is not how I was hoping to spend my afternoon...LOL.

Thanks Guys and Gals(?)

oil pressure sender is behind the intake sticking straight up off the engine block.

Thanks for the info on the sensor location.
Nice spot to get to of course.

Last 3 times I saw that DIC message, the oil pump has failed. All 3 trucks came through my shop and we replaced the pump each time. But it could be the Oil Pressure sensor dying on you. Make sure you check them both for safety.

Thanks Torque_Wrench, I was thinking that might be it. Do you have any info for a DIY job? I will search around a little. Is it a hard job? What is involved? Can it be done with normal hand tools?

I see we have exactly the same # of Posts...LOL

Thanks man.

its pretty easy to do about 15 minutes, i forgot which size it is but youll need a deep socket to get it out, .

this same exact thing happened to me a few years ago with my stock lq9 , i was hoping bad sensor too so i replace it and still no oil press. luckily i still had warranty and when we got it there, they pulled the oil pan and it had spun a cam bearing which is pertty common with ls engines.

If its making a knocking noise it is either the oil pump or a spun bearing.

Being 4wd I hear it can be a bitch to get he pick-up for the oil pump loose since there is not much room to drop the oil pan. Other than that it should be easier than a cam swap.

No noise in the engine that I can detect. Just have to hope it is not a bearing. I got a mechanical gauge in and no pressure so it doesn't look like its the sender. I am going to try and set the pressure relief valve with compressed air. If that doesn't do it I guess it will have to come apart. I will find out tomorrow.

How long does it take for oil pressure to come up? Should be almost instantaneous, right? I let it run for 20 - 30 seconds. Didn't want to chance running it too long.

20-30 seconds is all it took to take out my bearings, it sucks .

i heard no noise and did exactly the same as you with the manual guage. i had to drop my front diff to get the oil pan out and see that one of them had spun.
