a tilt switch? like the underhood light (that rarely works)?
i figured it'd be a plunger considering how quick it normally engaged.

but normally open makes sense for a 20yr old circuit, rather than it telling some nanny computer one thing so the computer can actuate something else kind of bullcrap.

Try this. I'm on my phone. It's the first thing I found that I could view.

I would have to take the old one apart to show you and I am far to lazy right now...

glad i had my hand-dandy RPO decoder on the desktop (from looking at trucks for my wife)
here i was guessing JF4 was cruise... wrong! it's power pedals (neither of which i have anyway).

is this chart for a 99-02 or 03+? my plug has (A -> D) white, orange, purple, brown (last 2 swapped). does that even matter?
as for the switch, i opened it up & it's a spring loaded set of contacts (one normal-open, two normal-closed), so i'll just measure continuity across each pin pair.

i always forget i have a camera at home. forgive the mess... this is probably the first time in 20yrs it's been off the pedal.

That was a 2003 I believe. I haven't found one for a 99-02 truck but I believe it's the same. Just different colors.

Of course now that I say that I will definitely be wrong!

Yes, you have the right idea checking continuity

hmm... took it all apart & the contacts are clean, good continuity when it's supposed to, open when it's supposed to.

reckon, based on that chart, i'll just put on a rubber glove & stick a paperclip across pins A & B of the connector to see if the lights come on...

dangit... i'm gettin' old & sloppy.
switch tested good on every iteration. solid 12.4v on orange. used the paperclip jumper with no success - even with 12.4v on the jumper.
plugged the switch back in & used a screwdriver to push the plunger... got a flicker as i moved my hand around. noticed the dang white wire has a brittle/broken spot on the jacket & it's starting to fray.

electronics 101: see if it even looks right before you start tearing crap apart!
reckon i'll drive the car tomorrow & butt splice it after work... just like i did with the dome light after a couple years of intermittently trying to figure it out.
