anyway, the dynoed difference between the 5.3 and 4.8 is about 30tq. the guys who claim that they can get good traction on street in the 5.3 are absolutely right, i have no argument if they can or cannot.
i am saying this: those guys can get good traction with the 5.3, but to do so, they do not use the full torque potential advantge of the 5.3, or else they will break em loose. am i making sense here, does anyone see what im saying yet?

OK let me bust out my big autobrain math.. If I may..
HP X RPM / 5252 = Tq
Tq X 5252 / RPM = HP
That is why the power and torque often cross right at 5252RPM.
Despite what I said the the "High Reving" post.
Big is better!! (almost always.)
P.S. Thunder 2k1 you have mail.

If your wheels/tires weigh 100 lbs more, the result at the track is like adding 200 lbs to your truck. Why do you think the drag racers all put lightweight wheels and tires on?
Lightweight wheels/tires also affect dynojet numbers FYI.

As for 4.8 vs. 5.3--my modded '01 4.8 is about 3-5 tenths slower than my buddy's bone-stock '02 5.3. And, my 4.8 would turn the tires over quite easily, thank you very much!

scream- i dont know what the deal is with ur truck, u shouldnt be losing to ur freind. im guessing it might be a combination of 20s and higher gears maybe?

Ok, I have a theory here that might make everyone happy? I'm gonna use Scream as an example ( ). He has a 01 RCSB 2wd 4.8 A4 with 3.42's and some bolt ons and I have the same set up except it's a stock 02 with a 5.3. I've got him beat by about 3 to 4 tenths in the 1/8 and 2 to 3 tenths in the 1/4, but our MPH is EXACTLY the same in the 1/8 and 1/4. So that leads me to believe that we are generating the same amount of top end HP, it's the low end is where the difference is.
Can Scream beat me? YEAH! Let's say we're street racing from a stop light. The light turns green and I instantly hammer the throttle to the floor which ignites my tires into a blaze of glory. Scream takes off like he has some sense, and I have no hope of running him down because I just lost my only advantage - that torquey hole shot.
All things being equal the 4.8 is weaker than the 5.3 which is weaker than the 6.0. Can a 4.8 beat a 5.3? Yup, but as a general rule the 5.3 wins because HP/TQ is king.
I do get traction on the street with the 5.3, when I want to that is!
