need a work truck, anyone know diesels?

I need a truck for work so I have been considering the 94-99 f-250-f-350 with the powerstroke diesels, also have been looking at the 94 up dodges with a cummins, all of the ones i have seen have had at least 100k+ miles, i know diesels will run well over 200k but what about the rest of the truck? does anyone have any experience with these? i may just end up getting a 100k+ 99 silverado and doing an engine swap if anything goes on it, what does everyone recommend? I love my silverado but i would really like to have a diesel in my work truck as well as the 3/4 ton or 1 ton suspension.

Run far. far away if you look at a chevy with a 6.5. They are just crap.Ive heard good about the big Ford diesel 7.4 or something. Dodge, well its a dodge!! Id say get a duramax and tune it !! runs like a rapes ape.

the ford 7.3's and the new 6.0's i think it is are great engines. if they kept up maintenance then they are fine at 100k. where i used to work we had put 2 even three k on them. check the front end and the tranny. look at service records. as for the dodge. yes it is a dodge. but it is a cummins under the hood. they are great for pulling torque. unless you are going to buy brand new i would go with the dodge since it is a cummins.

Cant afford anything new, trying to save up to build a house. I know the 6.5 chevy diesel is crap, wasn't even considering it. I prefer the interiors of the dodges better than the older fords and I dont think you can go wrong with the cummins power plant but i have no experience with either trucks with over 100 k on them. Does anyone know anything about the tranny in either truck? Or waht it may cost to replace them as I would assume that would be the weakest link on the trucks.
