Default 411 as a TCM?

Would it be possible to use a 0411 as a standalone tcm? Aftermarket TCM's can be spendy but an 0411 can be had for about $50 and be programmed. The 6.5 diesel died on our 2000 dually and I am looking at swapping a Cummins in there. Could I repin the factory tranny harness, add a TPS and program away?

I don't think it's that simple. You would also need to see things like engine RPM and Temperature.

Temp is easy enough. I wonder if rpm could come from the alternator like it does on the 6.5? Any idea why it needs the temperature?

It's one of the tables used to control the transmission shift points.

91-95 6.2 and 6.5 Diesel G-vans and C/K trucks with mechanical injection pumps used a controller that was chip based. Tuner Cats has a definition files for them as well.

Forgive me if I'm wording this wrong but I think that the newer stuff 07+ uses a "buss" between the ecm and tcm. From what I recall it is very difficult to use that setup. I could be way off base though.

Hence why I pointed you the "older" direction. Pre OBD2, cheaper to tune being chip based and still 100% adequate in controlling all functions of the transmission.

I have 2 concerns about the factory 91-93 tcm. 1 it is a fairly rare part. I drive all over and I don't want to be in a situation where I can't get a part for days. I have the same concern with an aftermarket tcm. 2 The cost isn't a big deal but I plan to purchase efilive and I would prefer not to buy and learn multiple tuning systems.

From what I can find I will need rpm and a tps. Tps is easy. Rpm I might have a couple of options. The factory tach reads the pulses of the stator on the alternator on the "P" terminal. The pulses are similar to the coil energizing. Another option would be to use an old school 4 pin hei module and a reluctor with a pickup. I might even be able to mod a L31 reluctor and ckp. If I can't make the reluctor work I can mod the Cummins balancer and build a bracket to hold the ckp.

In regards to the cts, I believe that the temps referenced are actually the tranny temps not the coolant temps. My 4L80E has a temp sender. Could anyone confirm that?
