Question Marine Engine ?

okay, I have a waverunner. just got it out of the shop last week. put it in on saturday and it ran great. put it in on sunday and it ran like ****. it had trouble getting any speed built up and then it only topped out at 31mph, which is roughly half of what it should come up to. There aren't visible problems. Oh and this is truck related because I tow it with my truck. lol. what do you guys think might be wrong with it? I'm gonna check the spark plugs in a few minutes.

fouled spark plugs. happens all the time with these things. Or make sure to look in the out drive or in drive make sure nothing is cloged in their. I had a fish stuck in my one time. Ran the rpms up and it blew it out.

yeah fouled plugs or something in the pump are the most common problems, if you keep fouling plugs you may be running your mixtures wrong, by that i mean too much oil.

thanx for your input guys. I pulled the plugs and the looked fine, I put em back in and took it to the ramp. It ran perfectly. ??? How weird. This supports whoever's theory that engines have a mind of their own. Run good one day, run like crap the next. lol

Could have cloged the inlet pipe and it was cleared out while trailoring it.

I dunno if the impeller was clogged. I stuck my hand in there when it wasn't running correctly and it seemed fine from what I could feel. Oh well.

Only other thing it could be depending on teh brand coupld be computer problems or water in the intake. I have a 1999 Yamaha gp 800 (up for sell) that was running similar to yoru situation. one say ran 62-63 mph next half that. ended up bing water in the intake. a friend rolled it and when he rolled it back up he rolled t teh wrong way. Dont know how he didnt see the big sticker in the back showing the way to roll it back over but o well the water eventually was blown out and runs like a champ now.

theirs alot of things that can go wrong with these things. I really think if you have one for more then a couple years you need to sell it. I can't describe how many used ones I see that need complete rebuilds on motors and outdrives. I really like sea-doos but talk about expensive replacing an engine.

Yeah, mine is a 1998 Seadoo GTX Limited. Luckily it has been taken care of very well. My dad's business partner owned it so it's in excellent shape. Could use a bigger engine though . The newer ones have a 1434cc engine and they're actually slower than mine which has a 950cc. They are a bit heavier, but still with 6 years of technology you'd think they'd fly by me. Oh well.
