Default LS1 Swap

I am looking to buy a '99 to '02 Chevy or GMC 1/2 ton pickup but would like a little more perf than the 4.8. If I bought one with a 4.8 would it be possible to transplant an ls1 and what would it take. Would the same procedure work if I found a truck with a tired 5.3 also?

I just did this with my 03' even though the 99-02 would be exactly the same. Doesn't matter if its the 4.8 or 5.3, they are basically the same. The motor will drop right in and bolt up to the trans. Just use the trucks intake manifold and accessories and your good to go, or you could use the LS1 intake and accessories if it already comes with it.

Im pretty sure everything just bolts up. I have also heard that the truck intake makes better torque than the stock LS1 intake. As far as headers and tranny and such should bolt right up. I know that Parish8 is running 1011rwhp with the stock intake..probly has some porting though...not sure.

Just buy a short block (block & heads) and everything else from the 4.8 will bolt right up. A LS1 will bolt directly up to a 4L60E.

Block and heads with no other accessory's is called a long block, just the block with rotating assembly, is a short block (no heads).

Opps, I was thinking the long block came with all the accessory's like the intake, oil pan, covers, etc.
