Default Lq4

After Much thought, I made a decision. I am going to put an LQ4 in my truck. I have pretty much figured out that it would take more money to fix up my TBI than it would to swap out for an LQ4. Has anyone ever done this swap into a truck of my bodystyle? Is it possible by an amature?

If I can't do an LQ4, I would really atleast want an LT1, any suggestions?

haha, it would be much cheaper to fix up your tbi than to put in a genIII engine. Now that's not saying that putting a lq4 wouldn't be badass, but it's going to cost alot unless you can fabricate alot of stuff you'll need.

I wouldn't even try to mod the TBI. Unless you pretty much make it a completely different engine (new heads and top end) the most horsepower you could hope for was somewhere around 330 at the flywheel...

well what I meant was that either way you go it's gonna be expensive to get any results worth noting.

See thats the thing, I already know that unless I put some sort of forced induction or nitrous, I am not going to see very big numbers from the TBI, and even then it will just have as much horsepower as most any new truck. I think that putting a newer better engineered engine would be easier. I mean, if I were to put nitrous or a turbo or supercharger, I would have to upgrade the internals anyways. So lets say I get an LQ4 for maybe $5000 with a tranny and everything? Would I have to run a bigger rear end?

IMO the motor and tranny aren't gonna be the expensive parts of the conversion. You can find a lq4 complete for about $1500 and a 4l80e for $1000. the conversion for the 4l80e will run you a couple grand maybe more since you're an obs guy. The lq4 will need new motor mounts and everything as well.

Like I said, unless you can fab up alot of the metal stuff you're looking at close to 10 grand.

Damn, so I am screwed either way! I am pretty sure that I could bold an LT1 right up though? I think that getting an LT1 from a 90's style Camaro or Trans Am, might not cost as much and I could still get good torque and HP

Or actually forget the LT1, A 454 would drop right in, like the ss models

A 454 from an old SS is still TBI. You'd be a little faster but those trucks weren't all that impressive from the factory for 454 cubic inches...
