Default low coolant light comes on

very seldom (maybe 1 or 2 times a month) this happens but my LOW COOLANT light comes on and i've looked at the resevoir and it's normal. any idea what is causing this? it's been a long time since i've done a radiator flush (maybe 20,000 miles) anyways i've got about 131,000 miles now and i'm worrying about crap starting to break.

Well it could be alot of things however I had a 99 5.3L and the coolant sensor crapped out at about 45K. I say with 130k+ you did good. My SSS has 40K and the sensor tells me all the time it low From what I understand, it is a common issue. I would just check the coolant level, ensure there is no trapped air in the system and ignore the light after I verified that the sensor plug is o.k.

I have never had that problem, but I was going to say the same thing. If you have coolant, then it really can't be much else.

do you have a cam? My truck gets the light every once in a while when I'm sitting at a stop idling for over 30 seconds or so. I think it's due to the cam and the idle set at 700

i don't have a cam but now that you mention it my light i think does come on when sitting at a traffic light or something and then start moving. then i comes on and eventually goes away. i haven't had it come on in a coupe weeks. is it worth having the sensor changed out? can i do this or should i take it to the dealership?
