Default Killed an SS tonight...

I took the opportunity today to do some sight-seeing in this wonderful area I live (Death Valley National Park), On the way home I had some fun too !!!

I was cruising home tonight at about 60mph or so and came up behind a new SS, I went to pass him (he WAS below the speed limit), At exactly the same time I got into it to go around him he started to accelerate hard too, by the time we reached HIS speed limiter I had out-distanced him by about 4 truck lengths...I was kinda suprised for a couple of reasons actually because I'm still mostly stock motor-wise and I'm pretty sure that the tuning, exhaust and intake I have isn't worth the extra 45hp that he suposedly has on me, also.....I had gone shopping and had 100lbs of groceries and junk and I also had my girlfriend with me, he was alone in his truck.

I wished SO BAD that I had been able to install the heads/cam yesterday....I would have LOVED to hand him his *** even worse than I did

so...what does a stock SS run anyway ??

Well My buddy has one with cam, CAI, Tune, Stall..... and on the highway from about 60 he can pull probably 4-5 cars by about 115.... Its really fast.... He was running around 14.89 with just CAI and a conservative tune.... There really fast....

Plus you floored it first.... From a stop it would be a completly different story.... plus when I race my buddy from my sweet spot... I can get maybe 1/2 car and then he starts pulling

If Yelo got the jump, then its his race. Its not hard to believe. The SS is a flat 15 second truck in stock form. Its not fast by any means, but it has some potiential.

Awesome job man!

Where do you have to go for groceries? From what I remember, Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells had small convience stores.

OK..I'm 100% CERTAIN that he was trying or he wouldn't have run as hard as he did.....4 truck lengths at 100mph isn't that far and remember, since I don't have a speed limiter (well...I do but it's set at 150mph) as soon as HE hit 100 I pulled on him like crazy

The ONLY reason that I found it really suprising is that I had all the junk plus another person in my truck and STILL pulled past him as well as I did....True, I DID pass HIM, so therefor I DID accelerate first, but If an SS is as fast as clamied I should NEVER have been able to pass him UNTIL HE HIT HIS SPEED LIMITER...I was well past him and gaining distance by 95mph

AND...WHY is it so hard to believe that a truck that WEIGHTS LESS and DOES NOT have the parasitic drag of the AWD is faster than one that does?????, If I'd have tried it in Auto-4 he'd have spanked me easily...but the benefit of 4WD is that I can be 2WD too !!!

I ran a 15.32 @ 91mph bone stock.....MSN Autos quotes the SS times as follows:
0-60: 7.07 sec,
1/4 mile: 15.51 @ 89.23mph

I am a good deal faster than that, both in ET AND trap speed !!

oh..and by the way, I HAVE run an SS from a stop...it was pretty damn close stoplight to stoplight in Las Vegas (with me taking a *slight* lead every time), I never got the chance to try him on the highway so I couldn't tell you how that would have worked out

EDIT.....sorry, I got kind of defensive here, I was just stoked about the kill and I got kind of ruffled by something I shouldn't have...

Pahrump, NV....and we have to go the LONG way through Shoshone, CA right now because Hwy 190 is still closed for repairs from the flood on Aug 15

He was running a 14.89 with a tune and conservative tune..... He should be in the high 13's easy.... its hard to believe that you ran a 15.3 stock...

I saw some statistics from motortrend of your 1999 ecsb running 0-60 in 8.2 sec

and the SS being around a 7.1 0-60 time....

The 1999 motortrend preformance specs shows a stock of 16.8 sec. @ 84.2mph

Thats 1.5secs under motortrend..

Your running faster stock with less HP than I am now with all my mods...

Its just doesnt match up...

And if the stock SS was running a 15.5@89, then how did you run a 15.3 stock with

around 60-75 less HP.... doesnt make much since... not to mention the only way you

could hang with one off the line is to have put your car in 4 wheel drive. but he still

woulda pulled you up top....
