My buddy came over and wanted a Tune on his 2004 Avalanche 2wd.
Well i wanted to do some runs with the stock tune and logg them.
I get everything hooked up and ready, he cranks it but i cant connect to the PCM to read the tune off of it. I went back and made sure i didnt have Scan tool connected. It wasnt, well i racked my brain for a min. Fuse blown
. Put a new fuse in there and works fine. Read the Tune off, and went for a ride.
I was lookin through the tune and it has Tire calibrated for stock 265/75/16.
He has 35s on there or 36s... not sure. Anyway the speedo is way off.
He mentioned something about a JET CHIP or something??
Does JET make anything for our trucks?? i dont know.
Anyway, while replacing the Fuse for the Cig Lighter, i saw that his K&N intake wasnt connected to the TB... I asked him how the truck ran, he said fine. There was about a good 3/4" gap on the bottom side where you could see light through. So i pulled it off and looked at it, then put it back on and made sure it didnt move.
So off we go. He kept bragging how he raced somebody and beat them. I always ignore him about this kindof stuff so i was watchin the Scan tool.
36" tires and 3.73 gears dont go together...
long story short, i didnt have the LIcense that i thought i did. so he has to wait till i get the number..
The truck is so freakin slow...
How could it be running with out the Intake hooked up?

OHHH, ok well i guess i have alot more learning to do.
Im goin to take a wild guess and say his motor wont be running top notch for much longer, i touched the Throttle body blade and it was some what dirty. Not black stuff, Brown as in dust. I told him to clean it all up before we start doing any tuning.

that's kinda weird that the intake tube came off, unless he does some offroading (i've had it happen in my old 97). the motor will still run, but fueling will be off since it's really getting more air than it thinks it is. I would get some seafoam to help out with any debris that might have entered the manifold, wouldn't hurt. have fun tuning it, avalanches are rediculously slow.
and btw Jet does make a flashing tool for our trucks.
this is the more popular pcm tool

and this guy is pretty new, I've never used it but it's got some capabilities, its supposedly a lot like ls1edit but doesn't have near as many features, which blows
