Just back from dealer on a warrany claim..

Power steering pump on my son's 05 ext cab sierra was making noise (28K miles). Made a whirring/growling noise at idle and got louder when you turned the steering wheel. Service writer said they'd look at it and get back to me. He called back yesterday and said that there was a bulletin out from GM that instructed them to change the pS fluid to synthetic and that would fix the problem.
He called this morning and said it was ready to be picked up. He said it still made a little noise, but that was because of my son's 275/55R20 tires. I mentioned to him that I had wider tires and more miles on my truck (same model as his) and my PS pump was nice and quiet. When we got the truck, my son said he thinks it was actually louder. Of course, the service writer was gone for the day.
Anyone had this trouble and what did you do about it? Unless someone has a better idea, I think I'll take it to another dealer and make sure I don't bother these folks with my business any more.

If you take it to another dealer put the stockers back on so there's no chance of them blaming it on the 20's. Even though some gm vehicles come stock with 275/55/20s. Lame on that dealer's part

I know they put 20's on some '06 and '07's. Did they do it in '05 also? Wonder if the pump is the same on the newer trucks? I think I have a set of 245/75R17's lying around somewhere. Sounds like a lot of trouble, but it may be the only way to get the pump changed without going into my pocketbook.
