Default Intake ?

Does anyone know what the 2 foam pieces at each end of the intake manifold are for? All I can think is that its to keep heat under the intake for emissions. If they are not needed I am going to leave them out. Thanks

I was thinking they where used to keep some of the engine compartment noise out of the Knock sensors range. Just a guess.

I figured they were insulating the intake manifold from the heat of the engine. Anyone know for sure what these things do?
