Default I have a problem....

On my truck, 01 1500HD I have recently had trouble with it starting. It used to start right up now I have to turn the key and it will turn over and I will hold it for a few seconds and then swith the key back to off. I immediatly try it again and it starts right up like it used to. I have tried switching the key on the let the fuel pump do its thing and still have the same result. Does anyone have any ideas what I can try to get it back to normal?

I would start by checking your fuel pressure. You may have a weak pump o even a stopped up fuel filter.

Also check your fuel pressure regulator, if you have one. My bosses truck was doing the same thing untill we replaced the fpr.

Will do, thanks for the advice. The filter is was replaced about 20K miles ago. Should I go ahead and replace it again or go ahead and try a new fuel pressure regulator?

Someone on another forum had the exact same issue last week. Turned out to be the filter in that case. But also check for fuel leaking into the vac line on the FPR = bad FPR. Could also be a leak inside the tank or stuck check valve on the pump.

I am going to put new plugs in, new fuel filter and then clean the air filter and see if it helps. If it doesn't then I will look into the fuel pressure regulator. Thanks for all the help.

First thing I'm going to check is your Ignition switch. They do fail quite often. Second thing is...I'm going to put a fuel meter on the back of my fuel rail and tape it to the wondow where I can see it, and then monitor the pressure at start up. And thrid is I'd scan the Crankshaft Position Sensor and make sure it's got a good signal.

After all that...if you got no reuslts...then we'll have to go alittle deeper.

I sea foamed the truck and changed the fuel filter and cleaned the air filter. I am waiting for the plugs and wires to get here and will change those once they get here. If that doesn't help then I will change the Fuel Pressure Regulator. If that doesn't solve it I will look into the crank position sensor. This is the 2nd time someone has mentioned this. Thanks for all the help.
