Default HVAC controller recall

My heater and a/c controller hasnt worked correctly for the past year lol! Half the time, the hot and cold switches wouldnt work and it wouldnt go from cold to hot and the highest setting (5) would turn the blower fan off. Kinda been procastinating on fixing it i guess..... Good thing i did because i just recieved a letter in the mail that Chevrolet finally is gonna cover the issue and fix it for free. I know for sure, others have had this issue and if anyone is having problems with there dual climate control or a/c panel not working correctly, give your dealership a call and ask them about it

There is a resistor board and harness that goes bad at the blower motor. Very common in the NBS trucks. Replaced 2 of them in my 05. Usually the board goes bad and melts the connector to it.

Is this still valid even if the truck is no longer under warranty? I have a 2005 that sounds like it has that problem and was going to crack it open and give it a shot myself, but if Chevy is going to fix it on their dime I'd rather have a tech do it. I haven't gotten a letter though.

Give your dealership a call. All recalls are valid regardless of warranty status.

You have to have a CJ3 hvac system. It is a special policy not a recall, meaning if it aint broke they won't fix it. The problem that you are describing doesn't sound like a blower resistor. Most common issue for a blower res is for the fan to only operate on one speed. What you described sounds more like and actuator that won't be covered. 89018365 is the actuator retail is $263.00.

Sounds like you have a blower resistor/connector issue and a sticking temp. door actuator. The resistor and connector are covered by the special policy but anything else is not.

Yep.

Ive had 2 replacement resistor switches for the wifes Tahoe, they go bad about every 1.5 years. I need another one again as " high" fan speed will not work.
I did recieve the recall letter and am going to have it fixed again, this time on Gm's dime, but alas it will fail again. Oh well at least we have kickass drivetrains and styling !!!!

there is an option on tahoes and yukons that you dont actually get a resistor you get a blower "module". modules are twice as much but dont burn the connector. also with in the last year or so GM redesigned the modules and they are better. Looks totally different but it will work.

I understand what you are saying about the "special policy". Makes sense, recall is normally a item replaced regardless if it is working due to safety issues. I will still take it to them if I get the chance. Maybe the original issue was the blower resistor which took out the other crap. Not gonna know if they cover it unless I take it in. Thanks for the heads up.

I been working at a dealer for 10 years. Go to them and tell them you had a burning smell and you got that letter. You are still gonna need an actuator though.
