took me 14yrs to go from 126k to 250k on my 99 1/2 ton, and now i couldn't pass up a good deal on a new truck still gonna drive her 'til she sells.
only major MX required since my last update was an nv4500 swap (due to me being a retard & pulling 7000lb @ 75mph) and a new steering box on Saturday to not lose power assist when i turn left any more.

Default It keeps going

If anyone is still looking at this, my daily driver is past 473,000 miles. I keep up on the routine maintenance and try to keep it under 90.
I did rings and rod bearings almost 100, 000 ago. It still can get 18-19 on the highway if I keep it under 70. I have no plans to sell. Might have to bury her, but that is a ways off, I think.

I recently rescued a 2001 Z71 ECSB neglected and covered in mud in the middle of nowhere, SC, with 270,xxx miles. The body is pretty beat up and the trans was shot, but the 5.3 seems to be in good health and there's zero rust on it. Gave the guy 3k for it and immediately dropped it off for a trans rebuild. Over the last 3 months i've done nose to tail service, shocks, brakes, bump stops, leafspring shackles, oil pressure sender, rear main, valve cover gaskets, lots and lots and lots of cleaning. Both outer CV boots were leaking and did not sound great, so i pulled them apart and put the stubs back in the hubs, dropped the front diff and leaving it 2WD for a bit while i get some other things like oil pickup o-ring and oil pan gasket knocked out. If i stumble across a 2WD 80e that's probably going in, but i'd like to get some use out of the fresh 60e.

I'm struggling with whether to spend any money on this motor or pick up a lower mile LM7 (or something else) to build up. At this point i feel like i have to let this motor go until it dies...it's made it this far!

270 is just getting broken in lol. I recently talked to a guy with a 2500 truck with the original lq4 in it with 474k miles on it running strong. The quarter panels were pretty rusted out. The truck had dents, hadn’t been washed in who knows how long but the motor didn’t tick, knock or smoke and he said it still had good power.

Just bought a 2005 Sierra Denali with 265k. No rust or body damage, trans has 4 years on a rebuild (probably 40k) and the transfercase was rebuilt last year. The 6.0 pulls strong but has the no oil pressure for a few seconds at start so its getting an oil pump and timing set before I drive it much. Seats are in good shape but some of the interior plastics need replaced. I think I got a good deal at $3900.

As of today 148,000 (12-11-2020) no to bad for a 21 year old truck.

So that equals 15,000 miles driving in 26 months...
grandpa don't get out as much as he used too

You're still young, young to middle age. When you get to or near retirement age things change a lot. The crowd you used to run with some will have moved away and some will have sadly, pass on to their reward. Lost my two closest friends, one last November (2019) and the other last March (2020) 4 months apart. One lived a block away and we'd been great friends since 5th grade, the other a half mile from me, one to cancer the other to alcoholism.

The garage was a hangout for decades now it's kinda quiet around here (dam pandemic). I'm actually putting more miles on the truck the last two years since I swapped out the V6... the hotrodding hobby still puts a smile on my face just like when I was a teenager! I swear it's like the fountain of youth for me!

My 2001 1500HD rolled over 307k miles yesterday. Original LQ4 with no issues. Replaced the rusted out rockers and added the turbo during the pandemic (have to keep busy). Adding the turbo early in 2020 made the original 4L80E and/or convertor start making noise. Rebuilt the trans with a Jakes Stage 4 and changed out the convertor, because I didn't want to mess with that heavy beast twice. No plans to get rid of it.
