I just picked up a 02 green Silverado with 34,000 miles on it. First owner loved it and only used it as a show truck for his Harley. Inside and out looks and drives smoother than a 2019 on the lot! Was hoping to give it and it to give me a long life! I didn't know but it has all the bells and whistles too. All orginal. Chevy dealer just did a full super tune and replaced all hoses and clamps . Did not buy from a dealer fyi. Just natural garage dust inside.
VERY NICE!!! And hey if you don't like the color, a wrap is way less than a primo paint job. Personally for that I wouldn't care. If dark green is good enough for a 427 Cobra or 427 Vette right?
I'm at 155,000 miles on the 1999 GMC Sierra 5.3 that I swapped into a 70 El Camino. The basic engine has generally done well with good oil pressure and compression and I have great confidence that it will stay that way. It did suffer a minor head gasket leak now solved. The previous owner had done a complete head overhaul about 3000 miles prior to my ownership - new valves, three angle seat cut and new seals. Yes, its mated and married 4L60E transmission had to be rebuilt soon after completing my swap - worn out 3-4 clutch pack frictions and steels. This was an $800 motor and a $500 transmission when I acquired them.
The other things you can expect are a few engine sensors, etc to need occasional replacement. I've replaced the engine coolant sensor, cam position sensor, a few coil packs and a few fuel injectors. I also had to perform a crank position sensor re-learn with my Tech2 clone device. This engine also suffered many random misfires across seven different cylinders and this turned out to not directly be an engine problem - bad powertrain control module (PCM). I popped a new PCM in off my stack of junk yard acquired and already free tuned (no HP Tuners credits required) devices and BAM!!! No more misfires.
I turned over 500,000 last week. Decided I should replace the original coils.
Half-Million miles is pretty darned good for a gasoline engine.
Please describe usage and maintenance regime, if you will !
You still running original valve springs and piston rings in the motor ?
