Default How many miles are the 5.3's good for??

Hey guys, I'm lookin at getting a 2003 GMC Sierra with the 5.3 and it has 189k on it. Would it be wise to get it with those miles or look for something else?

Personally I would look for lower miles.

But my dad has about 5 5.3 work trucks with 250K+ miles, one i think even has 300k on it.

If you're planning on driving it like a normal person mileage wouldn't scare me. If you plan on making power out of the 5.3 for example, H/C or NX/boost, Looks for a lower mileage IMO

Remember though, junkyard 5.3's are cheap. If the price is right, go for it.

It's all about how well it was taken care of before and your plans with it. Lot's of vehicles had the 5.3 so they are pretty easy to come by

The one here in anchorage will guarantee their parts. They even have some heads tanked and machined and on the shelf for purchase.
