Default Home engine swap.

How hard was it and do you have any recommendations?

Im thinking about stocking up with some tools from harbor freight and trying to make this a weekend project, instead of going home to do it. I really dont have any time, so it will probably get spread out over the course of two weekends. I know im gonna have to probably buy a cherry picker, although I wish i could find one to rent. As well as jackstands and a jack. Any other insight is appreciated.

I know I what tools im missing to get the tranny out, im really more worried about having to move the truck outta the garage to drop the engine in....

TIA
Colton

It wasn't all that bad for me, as long as you have a pretty decent tool set, and an engine hoist. Air tools would really help out as well.

I have a well rounded set of tool, like a 210 piece craftsman set. I know I need some long extensions to get the tranny out. Does autozone rent engine hoist's? I doubt it... but that would be nice

The 4.8 spun a bearing I think, and I recently acquired an engine from a member. I should pick it up tomorrow

The key is getting a hoist with a long arm so that it can clear the bumper. Also no need to disconnect the A/C. Just leave the compressor in the bay.

You'll really need help when pulling and dropping the new engine in. It requires several people to manuever the engine plus 1 to work the hoist

Not if you're patient...I've had 5 different engines in my truck and did all but 1 of them solo, including one solo operation pulling the engine/trans/t-case all as one piece.
