Default hemispherical head

Bored and have been thinking and reading.....

Ive read that the hemi shaped heads are extremely prone to detonation and preignition plus they have to run alot of timing (a sign of an inefficent head). I think this is part of the reason why DC doesnt want to release full aftermarket programmability. Anyone have any thoughts on the hemi head design.

I know the new Hemi engines are no where near like the original Hemis... but were the original heads the same as these new ones?

I always heard that hemi heads really arnt that great, ( i think wedge or something are much better ) for gas engines, nitromethane ( top fuelers ) on the otherhand is where hemi heads excel

The *hemi* engines running around right now DO NOT have TRUE hemi heads, they're semi-hemi.... just like everybody else's !!

I did hear the new ones will be true hemis.

Tell the dudge boyz this- they love it !!!!

Wedges must be better in some ways since there are so many. Maybe that's why Top Fuel & T-alc use hemi because you can ram so much into them...in other words less efficient is better for high inputs? I don't know;I guess the engine guys do.

I have been doin a bit of research on this exact subject for a few weeks now. From what I can tell the HEMI style head is awesome in theory but in reality nobody can actually perfect that theory and actually make it work. Closest thing to a true HEMI style head is that of top fuel dragsters and again fromt what I have been seein even those are pretty botched up from what a true HEMI head should be.

The early hemi head had good flow because with the hemi shape chamber they could have the valves across from each other and could get a much better valve angle to keep the valves away from the cylinder walls. The spark plug was also in a better location to create better ignition. From the pictures i've seen the new hemi is not a true hemi. I dont know about the detonation. As long as the dodge is in the mirror is all that matters.
