Ok... I HAD to post this up.

SO I am on the 101 today, and I stop to get gas with my budy who is in his Yukon. I got to shell, he hits up the Chevron... at the time i was starting to fill up, a Charcol colored 03 cobra, with a wing and dark *** tint, dropped even lower on sticy *** tires with new brakes all around pull up....

Now this isn't your typical Cobra. It was loud, and I mean REAL LOUD!!...

So this fat *** 40+ yr old guy struggles to get out of the thing, hands his son(another fat *** 14-15 yr old kid) 30 bucks togo fill up.

Anyways here the convo:

Him: Nice lookin truck
me: thanks.. is that an '03?
him: Yuuuup, sure is.
me: looks good, got anything done to it?
him: Heh heh, O yeah.. she's putting about 550 to the ground... i've chipped her, intake, exhaust, the whole deal....
Me: O, nice... 550 seems pretty steep though, you are talking to the wheels or at the flywheel?
him: the ground, yes, wheels.

me: That's sound pretty good.. wanna Race?

.... now there is no way in hell I thought I'd stand a chance at a stock 03 cobra.... thinking logical here

him: (looking at his fat son with a snickers bar and coke in his hands, smiling).. anytime, Anywhere
me: alright, how about now?.. where are you headed...
... North?
him and his son: OK, OK!
him again: This thing right here is the fastest car I have ever driven, I mean, it will smoke anything on the road, and believe ME, I KNOW.

me: Alright man, I'm not expecting to take you or anything. I mean you have a CAR, built on forced induction from the factory, and I bet you paid and arm and a leg for it..... don't be scared, it's only a TRUCK.

him: yeah, yeah... well what do you have under your hood?

me: A turbo
whats it pushing?

I dunno... but it's pretty decent... let's go.

as we are driving out of the driveway, his son sticks his head out the passenger window and wispers "my dad is a race car driver"

me:




so at this time, my buddy is still at the chevron with a video camera... I jump on my phone to try and get a hold of him, but low and behold, his cell phone is off. I just say Fawk it and hop on the freeway behind this guy and his son.


So after the Left on the on ramp, we both gun it hard, and of coarse, he pulls on me right away... He gets about 3-4 cars on me since he started in front... then we hit traffic... after it clears, we both hit it at the same time and immediately, his cobra starts pulling on me right away after we both downshift and hit it...... now his stang must have been geard down to at least 373's or 4:10's it would seem... we kept it up and the faster and faster we went, the more and more ground I gained back in my truck.... we slowed down at probably over 130 and slammed on the brakes hard.

Now this guy(all high headed at first) is now giving me a huge smile and him and his son both giving me thumbs up.

.. I felt rather amused that I turned them so easily and quickly...

So we pull up side by side once more, and slowed to like 55 mph. WE both gunned it and i was a split second later than him and he started pulling again...(I am sure the difference in the gears, weight, and the chrager vs the turbo spool up was the main factors in this race.)we continued up past 100 and he had no more than 2-3 cars on me as I started pulling back slowly again..... I was rather amazed that even at such high speeds, a truck could pull, even the slightest bit, on such an outstanding machine like the 03+ cobra.


I had to pull off the freeway after that since the weather stripping under the driver's side of the hood was half way out, sticking out above the fender any flapping in the wind from going such high speeds.



All in all, it was fun... I didn't expect to win in any way possible... and I'm rather pissed we didn't get the thing on video.

 

@ the part with the kid holding a snickers and a coke how classic is that sounded like a great race good work

I did something similar with a guy in a 6spd Trans Am on the way back from Rick's shop once. He really coulodn't pull on me other than the initial jump and I would actually SLOWLY close the distance. Then the last time when i was actually starting to pass him the damn intake pipe blew off.

This was on 22's??!! Thats awesome! Thats a damn fast car. Thats very impressive. A cam and a very small shot wouldve totally changed the outcome!!

 

Thats a great story because most of the guys that drive them Cobras think they cant be beat.

 

Nice run. I bet though he was excited to beat you, when he realized that a truck on 22's was on his *** he was pretty amazed. A bet a set of gears with a converter would have helped the situation. OR a 6.0!!!

 

Good race. I'll bet he was sand baggin up top to keep you in it and excited. His cobra will probably run hard to 160+. It's just alot more fun for all if it's close. Not slighting your truck at all, I just know how us old guys think.

You only know how fast someone really is if they're losing.

 

Depends if he was BSing about his mods or not.

Chris could probably trap 105-110mph depending on where his truck sits HP wise right now. A stock 03' Cobra isn't all that fast.
