Got a new project truck
#1
Hi guys,
I just got a 1993 Chevy 2500, 2WD, single cab, 350 TBI, 5 speed, 4.10 gears. Its got alot of miles (195,000) but the engine has 60,000 and the tranny has 5,000 and shes a really solid truck body wise. So what do you all think I should do? I'm a high school kid with a decent job but income is limited so nothing really expensive. First off I'm doing a tune up, oil change, air filter and other basic things to get her running even better but what can I do to make it cooler and a little faster? Thanks a bunch

Lower it (or raise it up if that's you thing). Find some cool older "mag" type wheels.
Go to some shows or races and try to find an older hot rodder to help you out. Praise his rod to get his attention. Ask some intelligent questions about his engine set-up and see if he has some 350 parts laying around to sell cheap.... heads, cam, headers, jets maybe. Lots of us "old farts" like to help out the kids if we see that they are friendly and serious about their rod. Their is no generation gap if you are a rodder
Dress up/detail the hell out of it.... every inch of it.... in/out/up/down.

I read somewhere that 96-99 Vortec heads make more power than the 90-95 TBI heads? Also I heard from some people that the TBI 350 couldn't get out of there own way, I think its got some power for a 5.7 but I want more, you guys think that it would hang with a newer 4.8/5.3/6.0?
Also what do I need to get to make my rear end sit the same hieght as my front end. Its got to much of a rake to it. Thanks.

cheap way for the rear (read:free) is to break apart the spring packs.
i lowered my 91 mazda 6" in the rear for $21....how?
$21 - 3" blocks
free - remove 2 of the 4 leaf springs.
than i just loosened the torsion bars up frotn to even it out...click the link in my sig and goto my mazda to see before/after shots.
dont get 20's....stick with 16's and lower it. i prefer 16/17's on a lowered ride with some decent tire on it...maybe im just weird?

I was thinking the same thing on the rims, It looks much better with 16/17's on a truck when its lowered. I'm going to do a full tune up and other things to get her ready for the spring then lower it.

I would rather see a 2500 go up in the air instead of lower, but it's your truck, do what you want. If I had that truck I would go "baja pre-runner" style with it.
