Default Got bored and unbolted my catbacks today...

Well I figured since I had to replace a bolt on the bracket on the Downpipe of the WRX I'd unbolt it and see how loud it'd be with an open catless DP. Holy **** ***** much louder than I thought! I drove about the city and you could hear me spooling about 2 blocks away!

Next came the Z...was expecting a lot more! I have a 40 Series Flowmaster on there now and with the open catted Y-pipe it wasn't much louder! I gassed it at WOT a few times and it sounded just a bit louder like as if it were dumped. Oh also... it seemed to actually pull better w/o a muffler at all than it does with that Flowmaster!

The F150's got longtubes and a high flow cat so it was pretty loud when I unbolted the cutout also. It just makes more noise uncapped as the exhaust flows pretty well and there's a Magnaflow out back.

Well leades me to suspect that Flowmaster on the Z is holding power back ~3000rpm on up and the others were just for a good laugh!

Thats the reason some people call 'em Blowmasters.

LOL, well I'm FINALLY outta school for the summer and don't start work until the 2nd Monday in June.

BTW...I swapped fuel filter on the Z also. I change them every 10K mi typically. I cut the old one open at it was already pretty soiled. I also changed my A/C fan belt today AND greased up my tensioner and idler pulley.

Think about that single in/dual out Flow40 on my truck! It sounds like a squeshed tailpipe with the whooshing sound it makes.

You can unbolt them headers on the Z and it will be loud as hell. The gutted cats act like a resonator.

It's not a crappy muffler in terms of build quality, but it is for performance somewhat. If you look into one...you see chambers and baffles. Slows down exhaust flow and restricts it. Still better than the pontoon our trucks come with stock. "Arggg matey! The seas are gettin' rough!" LOL

I like the tone of a Flowmaster under part throttle and WOT accleration but I do not like their typical associated drone and lack of power. There seemed to be more from ~3000rpm to the shift point without a muffler.
