Default Go to 20" wheels?

I am in need of new tires so I got to thinking about getting something wider and that led me to think about new wheels to better match a wider wheel rather than the stock 6.5" rim width.

I was wondering if anyone has any pros or cons to going with 20" wheels. How many people have tried them and regretted it afterward or did you really like them. Has anyone gone with 20s and decided to go back to something smaller for whatever reason.

How do people feel about 17" or 18" rims? Are you happy with the performance vs the show factor?

I would like to run a tire between 29" and 30.4". Anything bigger than 30.5" will likely rub and a 29" would give me an effective 3.9:1 final drive ratio taking the 3.73:1 gears in my truck into account and the stock tire height of 30.5".

Thanks guys let me know what you think.

20's look better IMO than the smaller wheels. It's a big truck biigger wheels to a point fit it better.Again IMO.
I ahve run the stocker 16 and went to 20's and don't plan to go back...a pro better looks lol.
cons:little rougher ride,cost more,gotta be more careful not to curb your new wheels,depending on the wheel polishing them....
also with less sidewall the traction can be hindered a bit unless you get a tire that has some more stickem.
All depends on what you want really. To me anything smaller than a 20 just isn't worth the money but alot of guys run 18's and love em.
Maybe if i had 18's i would know why but till then...

275/45/20 is a 29.7 in tire. and when your looking at wheels. try to find a wheel with a +35 offset. they will tuck in, rather than rubbing.

just make sure you get something that is light weight. you wll only regret it if you get some cheap heavy wheels. it will KILL you performance.

I think 18"s look great and don't sacrifice too much performance. 18's will also allow most brake kits to fit. Mine are 17" but if I was to do it again I'd go for the 18's.

Mort,
If you go with a 20" wheel you will have a great tire selection for your size. The 18's and 17's have fewer tires to choose from, but still look great and probably function better.

I had a set of 17" H2 wheels on my truck with 305/60/17 Nitto tires;

And a set of 18x9.75" Welds with 305/60/18 Toyo tires;

My truck was not very low (stupid HD body lift) so either of the wheels/tires would look better on your truck. 305/60/17 would fit good.

also weight there are some heavy 20's out there, and you will feel the difference.
if you look around there are some rims and tires that weigh about the same as stock 17's
so you get the best of both worlds!

yeah if you've got the money, get some forged wheels. those are crazy light.
