I'm shopping for a diesel truck, but wish I had more choices to look at. Since the newest diesels make tons of power/torque and get excellent fuel mileage, it would make sense for makers to start putting them into different trucks.
Ford puts a Powerstroke in an Excursion
How about GM putting one in a Tahoe, or Suburban, or maybe an Avalanche?
H2 Hummer with a Duramax? That would be cool. How about a Cadillac Escalade Duramax? Maybe an HD Silverado with an SS appearance package option?
Right now I'm still leaning towards the Dodge Quad-cab dually.

Supposedly, the plant that makes the Dmax engine is running at full capacity and can not spare any engines for the non-truck platforms (whatever
). The more realistic excuse is that GM didn't design the H2, SUV's and Vans with the Dmax in mind as an engine option in the first place. They would have to change alot of **** on the assembly lines to add the Dmax/Allison into the mix. I don't see it happening anytime soon....probably not until the next major redesign, if ever.
I think GM clearly under-estimated the diesel market. Again.

tony how can you say that you are looking at the cummins? the new 600 is a good motor but the early indications from the cummins guys is the fuel milage sucks! guys are getting 12 mpg unloaded and best of 15 mpg. this is straight from the diesel registry - the haven for dodge boys. did you see my post in the truck perform forum? we made 402 rwhp with program only! not to mention the best interior and ride. if you are looking to pull over 12K lbs constantly (i doubt it) then cummins. otherwise, the GMC is the best in my opinion.

also the suburban/yukon XL are already priced in the 50K dollar range now. add a MINIMUM of 6500 dollars for the engine and tranny and you are pricing yourself into a tough market. the eddie bower power strokes are bottom 50K and dont sell well as is. also the excursion is on the 3/4 ton frame as is so it is an easy chasis to put the heavy heavy diesel engine and trannys.

Something really cool would be a performance oriented RCSB DURAMAX!
Make a special 2500 reg cab short bed frame with all the beefed up differentials(4wd) of a regular 2500HD.
Give it a nice stance(lowered) from the factory with some nice wheels, I'd buy one tomorrow.
The only problem is it'll never happen.

gator, two guys at my plant drive brand new Rams. One purchased an '03 dually 2wd cummins a couple months ago and his shows 18 mpg (non H.O. engine) on the trip meter. The other guy has a H.O. 600 dually and his is averaging 17 mpg. Maybe the fuel is just better in Texas? Its also FLAT here, no hills and crap, so that could be it.
GMC/Chevy is my 2nd choice, but its a close 2nd. I like the F250/350 also, but I think they will be changing the body style soon and that would suck. The next one will probably be even better.
With the Dodge, you also get more standard features and a better warranty than with GM. 7 yrs 100K miles. They also look meaner than the GM trucks in my opinion.
