Default gas tank ?

i was just wondering what the size of the gas tank is for the '99-'02 silverado is. i made a bet with a friend that it is 24 gallons but in his manual it read that it was 26 gallons. since i have had my truck i have never filled up more than 24 gallons. anyways i was just wondering....

The size be stamped(molded) into the bottom of the tank. But it should be 26 gallons

I think it actually holds 26.5 I have put as much as 26.32 gallons in my truck. Of course the manual may not count the fill hose either, which I would imagine will hold at least half a gallon.

yea i hit 25 gallons almost everytime, but I have put in a little over 26 once or twice. It makes everyone so nervous when the fuel light comes on and I still drive another 50 miles, haha. The floatie thats in the tank must be pretty big. It just hits the bottom of the tank and thats what triggers the light. But the gas level in the tank probably sits in the middle of the floatie, so once it hits the bottom there can still be a considerable amout of gas in the tank. This is also why some fuel guages stay on full for a while.
