after living in lubbock for a while my engine bay is completely covered in dirt. i was wondering if it would be ok to go to the sprayers and spray it down. i've never done it before because i always thought something bad might happen, but my engine bay is too dirty and i can't stand it anymore. any advice on what i should do/ cover up? is there a cleaning spray i could buy from auto zone or anything? thanks for the help........

Just nail it with a pressure washer. I do it every other time I wash my truck. Nothing shorted out yet.

Go buy some engine cleaner or simple green from an auto parts store, go to a car wash, spray the cleaner on and spray it down with high pressure.
Just make sure the engine isn't super hot when you do it.
If you have an open element air filter, cover that up, otherwise everything else in these engines will take direct spray very well.

After I do the above mentioned, I drive it to dry it up, then go back to the car wash or home and mist the engine bay with Armor All, staying away from the belts.

Those cleaners won't harm hoses, wires and stuff like that? Go buy some engine cleaner or simple green from an auto parts store, go to a car wash, spray the cleaner on and spray it down with high pressure.

Simple green wont, but straight Castrol Super Clean will eat aluminum alive. So dilute it or dont use it!

theres this bad *** stuff called CD-2, you can get it from auto zone our o'rillys works real good after you high pressure wash it. just follow the directions and it comes out great.
my wifes truck was 7 years old, engine bay had never been cleaned during that time. used this stuff(cd-2) and it looks brand new, right of the show room floor. ill swear up and down by this stuff.

I use the CD-2 as well. I also use it to shine up my inner fender wells for shows.
thanks for the help. i got some stuff from autozone and it worked pretty well. i then did the Armor All and my engine bay has never looked so good. (except for the first day out of dealership). the stuff even got rid of that crap on my brake resevoir. i forgot what the stuff was and i left it at the freaking sprayers. oh well i got what i wanted out of it. thanks again for the help......
