Default EGR problem?

my truck has the check engine light on, i went to autozone and had them scan it and clear it 2x and it keeps coming back, same code i forget the number but they tell me its an EGR/ emissions problem, the truck runs fine... i read a thread somewhere about a valve or something that needed to be cleaned when this gets dirty and that gm makes a part to completely fix the problem but its not worth the money... does anyone know what im talking about and could you steer me in the right direction to find this thread?? there were pics and a description and i guess i should have just done it when i saw the thread but it wasnt throwing the code then lol, i think it was on another chevytruck forum but im not sure thanks for any help

just get the egr tuned out, also makes the engine bay a bit cleaner. or if you have emissions just tune it out and leave it on

It's probably carbon buildup in the EGR valve, causing the EGR valve to stick. Fairly common. You could try removing it & cleaning it up, might work(even if only for a short time). Otherwise you could replace the valve, or do the EGR delete. Deleting the EGR would make your truck fail the "visual" on an emissions inspection, if they do that where you live.

EGR delete is easy, use the old gasket as a template & make your own blockoff plate for the exhaust manifold. Use GM part #12558346 for the blockoff at the intake manifold. You'll need the PCM tuned as well. Since you have more mods planned in the future, you might as well get HPTuners or EFI Live so you can do this stuff yourself.

yeah its already deleted just behind the throttle body with a plug, i got a guy that does my visual and passes me... no emissions test, but a visual up here... anyone got a pic of what the egr valve looks like? i think the orig owner deleted it... as for tuning it myself, im not gonna spend the money nor take the time to learn it, just not my thing, if i ever go LS with my race car ill do it, im sure its cool, but i just dont have time to learn something like that i have alot of other learning to do for work... if i was an auto tech i would def do it, then open up a speed shop and do tunes cause theres only 2 around me in a 2 hour radius... but right now i dont have enough time or resources for all that... now if someone was selling the tuning software for $300 then id jump on it and id find someone else to do my tune LOL

Well, if it's been deleted, but not tuned for it, that explains the code. The code won't go away until you get it tuned.

Post up a pic of your engine. Get the passenger side exhaust manifold and the throttle body in the pic. Would also be helpful if you posted the actual DTC number.
