Default Ebay A/C Kit?

I've been having trouble with my ac for a while now. It used to cycle at idle alot and really mess with the idle(causing it to surge etc) as well as blow warm air. So I tried adding some freon with one of those little recharger cans with the gauge on the hose. Now the compressor doesn't run longer than a second or two and just blows warm air. I think my compressor might have been going bad and I might have overpressurized the system. Should I just start over with one of these complete kits from ebay or have a shop evecuate the system, draw a vacuum and recharge the existing system?
Anyone ever try on of these kits? Are they good qulity or junk?

Thanks Jason

Start with that. Maybe they'll tell you that your compressor is bad beforehand, maybe it just is overcharged or has air in the system.
