Default dyno questions

i am geting ready to get some dyno numbers and have a few questions.

i hear it is best to dyno in 3rd with the converter locked, seems like this would be prety easy to do with ls1edit and the only way i could dyno since i still have no 2nd or 4th. anyone use ls1edit for this purpose?

how much is a typical dyno session, lets say i want to make 6 runs over a 2 hour period, sounds like it will cost about $170 for that at the only shop around here. thats 100$ for the first hour and $70 after that.

i am always looking for a way to make a few bucks doing something i might enjoy and it seems like a dyno would be a good way to do it. how much do one of these things cost? what kind of maintence and operating costs are there? it seems to me if i could get one of these machines for 40,000 with the wideband and all the stuff to make it work and then sell an average of 1 hour a day at lets say $90 i could make enuff money to not have to work, chaining up cars and operatring that machine wouldn't be anything like work. someone needs to burst my bubble now, these things cost more like 100k dont they?

Down at the bottom of the page, they have leasing information and contact information. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

That would be awesome to just run a dyno and not have to work. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I'm usually on the cheaper side and get my stuff done on a "dyno day". Prices are usually in the $30 - $40 range for a 3 pull session. I have never rented it for any longer. There isn't much time to tweek anything.

Having a dyno would be really cool. If you did that, you would also want to buy some tuning software. Might as well make it a performance shop.

One other thought - Get a 4wheel dyno. They are very rare. I knew of one in Dallas, but the shop sold it last year. That shop had exotic cars by the *****. Guys were coming in to the shop from hundreds of miles away. Their prices by the hour were similar to what you were quoted.

The place I go has a dyno-jet. I got lucky because my buddy is friends with them and I only get charged $40. Last time we were on we spent almost 3 hours on it. Now up the road another guy has a engine dyno. He charges $300, thats a bit steep if you ask me.
