This is the dumbest problem i've ever encountered

Once in a while, the truck wont start. If i just go touch the starter, it starts.
Once in a while the guages wont work. If i disconnect and then reconnect the neg battery terminal, its all good again.
what the ****.

i would honestly check out the positive battery terminal since there are two heavy guage leads. One heading to the main power bus and the other down to the starter solenoid. Atleast it would be a good place to start.
Its the only thing that i can think of that would cause those two problems independently of each other.

I've had the gauge issue which ended up being loose grounds in the back of the cylinder heads. There are three that bolt down back there and you can reach them without taking anything apart.
