Why would some trucks get one while others don't?

Carbon fiber isn't worth it unless you like spending money, IMO.

My dennys shaft is half the weight of my Stock steel unit. From what I remember it was 14lbs compared to 28lbs but don't quote me on it, It has been a long time.

My 99 came with the steel shaft but I believe the ext cabs came with aluminum.
Than in 2000 or 2001, most trucks came with aluminum, except a few but I'm not sure for what reason, 4wd, 2wd, base ls etc..
All the increase I made with the lighter shaft was negated when I slappped some big heavy 20's on there. Now that I'm back down to 18's I can enjoy the slight increase in acceleration.

Well, I just went outside and checked to see what kind of driveshaft I have......just like I thought, a nice rusty, steel driveshaft.

All 2wds come with a steel driveshaft and all 4x4s come with an aluminum one.

Also all 4x4s have a 1 piece driveshaft, even the extended cabs, but the 2wds have a 2 piece one

Are the aluminum driveshafts the same size as the steel?
