Default Dont Buy Gas on May 15

Subject: Don't pump gas on May 15th

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on may 15th

...in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest
of
gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in
protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most
places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
network,
and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take

$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys
pockets
for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th
and

lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least
one
day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) resend this to all your
contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th

Once again this thread pops up. You do realize that not buying gas will not do anything since you will either buy that gas before or after the date. The price of gas will not go down. Hell, if the store owners wanted to, they could raise the prices because they know you will have to come back sometime.

Back on topic, the oil companies do not set the price of gas. Hell, the US oil companies only own about 5% of the total reserves. How the hell can they control the cost with a minority like that? They can't. I could go on and on about this subject but I will stop there.

There was not a 'gas out' in April of 1997 and gas didn't go down overnight. You won't be taking money out of the oil companies pockets because so much more goes into the price of oil. Here's a breakdown of the factors going into oil when it's $3 a gallon. About 60% is determined by price of crude (set in world markets)...that's $1.80. Refining profit is about 45 cents...now up to $2.25. Marketing, selling profit (pump profit)...about $0.25 cents...now up to $2.50. The remaining 50 cents is tax...federal and state.

If you can't see the bad logic behind this whole 'protest' then I feel sorry for your incompentence. Yes, oil companies made record profits last year, but can you blame them for meeting the biggest need of the world? Hell no, every business owner wishes their product was in as much demand as oil.

In closing, if you really want to do something about prices, everyone needs to decrease their dependency over the LONG term (years). For what its worth, gas is about $8 in Europe and less than $1 in the Middle East and Egypt.
