Default Decided to keep the bigger tires and get 4.10 gears.

I was going to sell the 265/70R17 tires that came on the Escalade wheels I bought but I decided to keep them. They did zap some power being 1.5" taller than the OEM 255/70R16's tires, making my 3.73's effectlivly 3.55's. I like the way they fill in the wheel wells though and make the truck look a little more sport truckie (word?). Upgading to 4.10's will make the rear end gears effectivly go from 3.55's to 3.90's which are better than the 3.73's I had before.

Jim, are you going to keep the stock G80 or are you going to step up to an Eaton or anything like that?

I'm not sure, what would be the price from getting an OEM 4.10 ring and pinion to an Eaton or Auburn. I don't know much about rear ends but I don't plan on putting to much more power through the driveline. I have no plans of adding a Supercharger or NOS, will the OEM 4.10 ring and pinion be strong enough for my current set up and maybe a touch more? I found a company that has Motive Gears, are they any good? I can get a 4.10 ring and pinion for about $140 and an complete installtion kit for about $90. How much should I expect to pay to get it installed (labor in my area is about $85 an hour).

Yes, Motive gears are very good. I had the performance series on my 01 and they were as quaet as the originals. Can't go wrong with them.

Well if you are gonna stick to maybe a few more bolt ons (UPD, LTs, Diablo, etc) your stock G80 should hold up okay.

I think they break from shock (like the F-bod rearends) more than anything. No launches on slicks.

If I had the extra cash, I would go ahead and stuff an Eaton in there...but that is just me.

I agree. When I upgrade to 4.10's I'm installing an Eaton and a TA diff cover right away.

Y2k I decided to go the same route. I'm going to 3.73's since I travel a lot. The eatons run about $350 or there abouts. I had a guy quote me $200 for the intall of an eaton and gears. They have to pull out the G80 in order to get to the gears so they shouldn't charge any extra for the install of the eaton. One of the other board members pointed me to these guys. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...11769&rd=1 I was going to go with them until I found a eaton and install kit from one of the members here.
