Default cruise keeps shutting off

it used to be intermittent. sometimes it would shutoff when i would use the directional to change lanes. then it started to do it everytime i use the directional. now it seems to shutoff after about 10 sec without even having to touch the directional. does it sound like i have a bad ground somewhere?

i another problem that i want to address. sometimes my message center shows a red battery light for a for seconds and all my gauges shut down, but then they all go back to normal and the battery light goes off. i seem to notice it more when the RPMs drop due to breaking and decreasing speed. what could this be?

For the directionals I'd look for a broken wire somewhere in the steering column/directional stalk area. The gauge problem could be a number of things, ranging from the alt or a bad ground like viciousknid mentioned, or maybe even a loose or corroded battery terminal/cable.

Do you tilt your wheel up and down a lot? I was in the habit of doing this every time I got in/out of the truck. Eventually this caused the wiring harness from the multi function switch(turn signal/cruise lever) to fail. This caused my cruise to work intermittently or sometimes not at all. Replaced the lever and harness and have had no other issues. Also quit tilting my wheel so much

As for your other issue, I would look for a loose connection/ground.

i hardly tilt the steering wheel. although, i used to take my instrument cluster out alot years ago when i ran lots of wires for accessories. i had to tilt the wheel then in order to get the dash trim out.

here are some other things i forgot to mention that happen too:

- service 4WD message comes on alot (either all the lights on the push buttons are lit, or none are lit)

- the gear selector display has gone completely dark once in a while.
