Crazy go-kart idea
#1
My friend and I are wanting to take my old go-kart and take off the 5hp engine and replace it with a motorcycle engine(305cc?), and also rig up a turbocharger on it. I know it sounds crazy but do you guys think it would be fun? I can get the engine and turbo realy cheap, do you think it would be hard to fab up the turbo (I know a welder so that portion won't be a problem)? Just wondering what you guys think about this crazy idea, I bet it would be a blast if we get it to work, you know having a manual transmission go-kart producting about 60hp qith slicks and posi.

I have an old Kawasaki 250 with some frame issues. Same thought crossed my mind: I wonder how that two stroke 250 would do on a go-kart? It would be nice having a go-kart with more than one speed (and more than 5 hp).

big they have them and special frames for them i believe they have clocked a 250 doing aproz 210-220mph. they realy dont race the 250s but they do race the 80s and 125s. i was goiong to get into shifter cart when i sold all my bikes gut it is realy the best is who has the most money. i have seen them guys spend upwards of 10,000$ on a cart. there are other types of cart racing were there are more standerds and it is mainly the best driver wins.
but i believe in that vid it is a 600cc street bike motor if it is the vid i saw a while back.
o and a little info on a 125cc shifter kart is they are faster by a little than a corvett from 0-60 and they top out at about 120. all at about an inch off the ground and running methanol.

I don't want to spend $10k on anything. This would be a cheap project for me. You know, a used motor, some pipe, parts off a lawn mower, etc..
Just the kind of thing to unexpectedly kill you.

no no i totaly understand what you are saying i am just telling you how much these guys are spending in that sport. that is one reason i did not get into it cause the shifter classes is mainly about who has the most money.

I don't know about slapping anything that big on there, but some friends and I once took a Honda CR80 motor and put it on his "offroad" go kart. After getting it work, it would pop wheelies and out run his moms Dodge Durango down the street. It was a blast! BigTex if you decide to do this, i'd be glad to help!
