Holy ****...20 to 40 thousand PSI??? thats a pretty major stumbling block in itself. Oh well, it gave me something to think about while driving from NY to FL yesterday.

What about these diesel race motors that Audi and VW are using?

The old 5.7L GM diesels were Oldsmobile 350's. They were a beefed up unit. The block was a heavier high nickle unit, the crank had big block Old's sized mains, the rods were extremely heavy duty with floating pins and the pistons were beefy flat tops with an extra ring. All of that and at 22:1 compression were total turds; they wouldn't hold a head gasket and a Honda Civic would run circles around one. Good news for them, besides GM quit making them, is the bocks could be used to build 450 + cube gas motors that were tuff. Back when the different GM brands actually ran their own motors in NASCAR, Old's teams used the 350D blocks.

Look into the Olds 350 diesel. We had one in our Cutlass.
Another big hurdle would be how to clamp down the heads good enough...

I learned a good deal about cars helping my dad work on that thing.

I was going to Oring the block, but I hadn't thought of bolts or studs or whether or not they would work.

While it's not something I would do, there is always someone tinkering with something. So go ahead if that's what you are in to. If I were to attempt something like what you’re contemplating, I would go with studs to try and hold down the heads. That was one of the many major downfalls of the Old's diesel. They even eventually increased the head bolt size on them, which helped but didn't cure all of their problems. Even with the larger bolt size, they didn't have enough clamping force to keep the heads sealed. They didn't have enough bolts surrounding the cylinders. Sort-of sounds familiar to LS motors eh!

We cant even get the heads to stay down on a boosted gas LS engine...
If you want to do something cool, adapt direct injection to the ls before gm does...

Hate to be a thread jacker, but I have been drawing up a way to do just that! As well as to create a close to infinite valve timing and lift system that would work with the same principles as other companies, yet use a single camsaft, ONE! The one in the stock LSx location!

This won't use the Bosch comp that EFI Live's tuners hate so much, it will be with something that is modifiable.
