a pentuim 4 board and p3 board are not compatible.

Give me a day and I'll give you some specs on one of my extras I have here. I'm pretty sure I've got a spare Athlon 2GHz, a board and some other stuff you'd need.

Right now I'm looking to get a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz CPU. Will my current motherboard support this/ should I buy anotherone? I'm very interested in learning more but have so many questions. Does anyone have a basic computer they are willing to sell cheap so I can build my own and learn more? Anyways here are some pics.
No that won't work. You have the PGA370 socket. Which only supports PIII and Some Celeron processors. Just buy a motherboard bundle w/ memory. I notice you have Dell memory if it's a Dell computer you will have to buy a new case and power supply because there power supply will burn up your new motherboard. There power supply is wired different.

Jerry2500, what upgrades are compatible with my current setup (1GHz pentium 3 cpu) Also my dad said that the RAM is maxed out on the thing. I think the meant that there is no more room to add more sticks of RAM. Right now I know we have 1 stick of 256MB, then 2 sticks of 128MB to equal the 512MB of RAM. Can I remove one 128 MB stick and put a 256 MB stick in its place just to help my dads comp. out a little? Thanks for all the helpful info guys, I really appreciate it. Thanks

As far as CPU 1.3mhz is the max for that board. As far as memory it depends on what the board will support. You can try it, but 512 may be the max for that board. I think i have a PIII 1.3mhz laying around . I'll look. Is there a brand name and model number on the board? I could find out what it can take as far as memory.

If you find that Pentium 1.3GHz just let me know what you want for it. Also would the 1.3ghz be a direct swap (just unplug the 599mhz and plug in the 1.3ghz) is it that easy? Thanks

It looks like your Mboard is a SOYO Model SY-7VCA-E, If it is it will support 1.5ghz memory but will only support up to a 1gig cpu.
