Default Cold Weather gas Mileage

My 03 Ext Cab Z71 has been avg 13.1-13.5.
Mostly short Trips and I let it warm up 5-10 minutes daily. It has been mostly 20's this winter dipping into the -15 range at night.
Only mods from stock are Studded snows and a UPD, I run 89.

Any formula for figuring how much gas I'm burning letting it warm up in the morning?

What are you cold weather drivers seeing?

I usually lose 2mpg or so in the winter. I always just figured it was becuase of the reformulated gas. I'll never understand that one. How does it help emissions when you burn so much more of it?? I think somebody is just lining their pockets off that scam.

man, my MPG has been way down this winter. not sure what is going on. i usually get about 15 mpg in winter. but this year it has got to be 12-13. when my fuel gauge reads 3/4, i used to have 120 miles on the trip odometer. now at 3/4 it reads 80. blah

Does the denser air have an impact on mileage? I'd imagine that the denser air would require more fuel, or am I wrong? I got 21.2 on my trip this weekend .

If I factor in my 15 minute warm-up in the morning, I'm getting 14.5 to 14.9 a tank.

In the summer, I usually see 16 a tank.

If I just set the DIC to look at average mileage for a trip, like my 25 mile back-road ride into work, I get high 17's. I actually got 18.1 last week, taking it pretty easy. (that's "easy", not "slow"). This is consistant year round.

I expect to see even better mileage after I put the exhaust on last weekend here. I'm using even less pedal with it on. The truck gained a lot of torque with just wires and exhaust.

I think it's just the extended warm-up time and extra fuel needed for the cold air, during warmup, that kills the mileage a bit.

You know, I was just thinking the same thing. According to the DIC I'm getting 14.0 mpg for the life of my truck now (5200 miles), down from 14.8. Damn NYC driving and winter.

Every day, full throttle.... slam on the brakes.... Full throttle.... slam on the brakes. No wonder my mileage sucks. At least all the snow is gone.

The reformulated gas is oxygenated so it burns hotter, and a hotter burn is more complete and cleaner. You only need to let your truck warm up for a minute tops. If its freezing there, get an engine block heater.
