Cleaning up a block for assy...best way?

All the newer blocks have the torx. I've heard other people say they were tight too. I would put new torx bolts in there. Get yourself a new torx socket and impact driver.

Do the bits fit in there snug? Is is possible those screws are Torx+ screws? Or is that what you mean by "stronger Torx?"

I just came across this problem with my L92 phaser and the Torx+ screws.

get a bit that's hardened. You can buy them in singles or get a cheap set from Autozone.
Yes they sound like crap when you "crack `em" loose
Yes that plate is very "tender." I make 4 rounds when I do the cam swaps. Lock tite is NOT needed.
Some torque wrenches will goto 18lbs, . . . but they're not always accurate. Not worth it.

That looks like the new style cover where the holes are machined to accept the bolts at a low profile, so regular bolts won't work.

How long has that block been sitting for? Pretty hard to get the cam gear to get rust on it.
