Default cant figure this out

ok so i was out messing around in my truck and a realized that from a dead stop with my ac off i can only stall to about 1000, anything over that i will just do a stand still. BUT if i have my ac on i can stall to about 1500 and have a good launch. I just cant figure this out can anyone help me out its driving me crazy.

Just guessing, but when you turn on your ac doesn't it pull timing, thus letting you rev more to achieve the same torque?
