I think youd be happiest with a custom bent cage. Its a lot easier to fit a cage tight when us fab guys have the vehicle in our possession and can tack tubes in and move things around.

Around the dash fits like ****, commonly breaks knee caps, and make ingress/egress impossible. I built an around the dash kit for an Evo8 because he wanted to keep AC and not cut the dash. He regrets it. I think it looks like trash. All my stuff now goes through the dash or I reject the job.

NHRA will not allow you to plate the cage to the body pan and pass tech. For body on frame vehicles, it has to go to the frame. Do not let your fab guy tell you otherwise, unless he is going to eat the cost of fixing it when you fail tech.

1.75x.120 DOM is cheaper than the 1.625x.118 that the NHRA requires, and they say "minimum" so you're over qualified when you use the 1.75.

Chromo on a street vehicle is a waste, but if you wanna do it, go ahead. The cage will not cert for as long as mild, and the cost far out weighs the weight savings. Build a "heavier" mild steel cage, up the boost 2lbs and keep that extra $2k in your pocket.

Thats all I can think of.
I wouldn’t recommend .120 wall on anything with a bend in it. When it’s bent the steel stretches and becomes thinner around the bend usually falling below the .118 minimum, go with .134 wall.

I've bent 180 degrees and we were at .118 in the center with that stupid meter NHRA uses. Cold bent, 1.75x.120 DOM.

But, you're welcome to go thicker. Nothing wrong with thicker. I question the accuracy of those meters hard anyway.

I got a few prices for some cage kits from S&W Race Cars

All kits are 1.750” tube

.134 EWS $250/$2400 installed
.120 DOM $405/$3500 installed
.083 Chro-Mo $608/$4500 installed

Out of those options is Chromoly really worth the extra $2k and 20lbs in weight savings? Or will the others be just as suitable, I only need a cage to keep the track happy for when I go over 11.50/125mph....... don’t really have any plans on putting the truck in the single digits.......... at least not yet anyways

Why did they quote 1.75 x .083 moly? IIRC 1.625" OD x .083" wall is the correct size, since its stronger than DOM you can use a smaller OD

I'd go chromoly just for the strength of it. I wouldn't wanna be in a rolling slide with a mild steel cage protecting me. That's just me tho.

Gonna replace it every 5yrs too? Chromo cages have an expiration date.

Youve talked to the track and they have requested you build a cage to go 11.50? If you were closer to NM, I'd be happy to build you a .120 DOM cage 4, 6, 8, 10pt w/e you wanted for ~2k.

I'll need to check the rule book before I spout BS, but I wasnt aware that 11.50s needed a cage.
