Default A/c Compressor question

I've noticed on my 2001 Silverado the compressor cycles with the heat on. What I was wondering if this is normal?

If it's in defrost dash or defrost bilevel it will automatically cycle for dehumidified defrost or if you have the a/c button depressed and set to dash vents and just rotate the **** over to hot the compressor will still come on and go off it still has an a/c request to the pcm at that point and the compressor will cycle as needed based off of suction pressure.
