Thumbs up Buying my first truck this month!

I'll seriously looking into a 1999 Chevy Silverado K1500 regular cab short bed with 4wd this month through a local Carmax dealership. I've found one that's currently out of state, and I'm just waiting for it to arrive at the dealership in Indianapolis. It's got 60,000+ miles on it, 4.8L V8, burgundy paint, the exterior itself is in great shape, the tires are fairly new, and from what I'm told the interior is in decent shape. I asked a lot of questions when corresponding with their online salesperson, and there was a visual walk around made at the dealership that this truck currently sits at that made it sound very promising. Is there anything I should pay particular attention to when I'm looking the truck over myself? I've not been around 4wd's much but would like one to battle the one hour commute I have to work in during our lovely Indiana Winters ....

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Scott

08/13/04 Update: I brought the truck home today! It was even better than I expected! Thanks to everyone for helping me out. You guys & gals are the best! I'll get some pics put together and build a site for the truck as soon as I can.....

Scott

Well the first thing I would is find out what warranty work was done to it. Also try to find the original owner and ask why they got rid of it. I would have a shop check it over most shops will check it out for under $100. Why would you decide on 4X4?

I'm going with the 4wd to help me a little with my one-hour commute to Indy from my house in Tipton, IN, during the Winter months. I've driven the T/A daily with no problems on the main roads during the Winter, but my driveway is accessed by an alleyway. It doesn't always get plowed and can get rather rutty with snow.

If it weren't for the snow, I'd get a 2wd and slam it. But practicality set in and I decided that it would be in my best interest to get a 4wd.
