Does burning out your street tires like burning slicks at the track make your street tires hook up better? Or am I wasting rubber?

No ********. I asked the question like this because someone else on the board is telling me that burning your street tires will make you hook up better because they are warmed up....
Warm tires=better grip according to him

Explain why.

Cause I just figure it wont make a big difference....
But either way doesnt hotter rubber hook up better, as minimal as it is?

On "most" street tires the burn out will make them slippery. Better off with a drag radial and burning that up.....that will get sticky.

 

It depends on the tire and the conditions .. my GT2's will run better if I can blow them loose, but if I smoke them, they suck. It's kind of a luck of the draw thing.

 

I can tell you for a fact, at Capital Raceway (one of MD local tracks), you MUST go through the water in order to stage the car. There is no way to not get the tires wet, so you have to do a burn-out, period, unless you want to wait for them to drip dry???? I have Continental 4x4 (touring tire tread type) on my ECSB and when I heat the tires up, they are as sticky as the BFG Drag radials on my racecar. There is hot rubber all over the quarter panel when I'm done. Also, try it on the street. Do a healthy burnout and get the tires hot. Then do another right behind it and see if it doesn't hook better. Heated radial tires hook better! This isn't something I read, as I have made several hundred passes over the years on radials and from my experience, there is NO DOUBT. Next time your at the track, check out the old timers. Now if traction isn't an issue for you, its a waste. But with this new converter in my truck, it won't hook unless I heat them up.

 

Depends on tire compound. Your average street radial will NOT benefit from heat ... however, a brief - very brief - roll of the tire is good to clear any rocks, dirt and such which will effect traction. On the track running on other rubber will help you but on the battlefield between streetlights on crappy unkept asphalt ... heat is your enemy. Warm normally driven tires will hook better than a cold undriven tire but cross the threshold of warm to hot and good bye traction.
