Building 3" Y pipe 4L80 clearance questions
#1
I am building a 3" Y for the 02 4x4. Right now my truck had a 60 in it. I have given the pan as much room as I can without putting the exhaust below the cross member. This truck will see desert use, so the exhaust hanging out in the open as the lowest part of the under carriage is not acceptable.
If it's clears the 60 pan for days, a stock 80 pan should also clear right? Trans is with the builder, and I can't put it in for a test fit. Want to finish the truck so it can go to paint under its own power.
Looking for answers ASAP if possible. Thanks!

So what exactly are you asking?
80e installed on my '00 and I'm running a 3.5 y-pipe and exhaust. I'm pretty low and have had no issues with it given I'm 2wd so not sure what's all different from you 4x4's

If the Y-pipe will clear the very bottom of the 4L60 it will clear the 4L80. Now if the y pipe is in the recessed portion of the 4L60 pan it wont clear the 4L80. does that make since. The 4L80 pan is a little more shallow than the 4L60 pan is by maybe 1/2"

Thank you, that does make sense. I did not tuck the exhaust up into the recess at the rear of the 60e.
As far as widths go, are the 60 and 80 about the same width? I have left a lot of room on the passenger side of the trans where my manifolds meet. Just wondering if that 1.2-2" will be enough if the 80 is wider.
I'll try to post a pic later tonight
