Question Which Brand Crank Puller?

What is the best puller for removal of the crank pulley?
I've sen OTC mentioned here, but not seeing any prices or anywhere around TX to buy one from.
Also, is there an actual tool that holds the crank pulley in place while torqueing the bolt down?
Any suggestions?

Jim

I just used a 3 jaw puller from the parts store...and the holding tool I used is a big prybar although they do make a tool that holds it by the flywheel teeth.

I have the OTC puller, it works perfectly. I did a google search and price shopped....can't remember exactly where I got it, may have been the ToolWarehouse.com? As for holding the crank in place, you could use a prybar through the crank, a flywheel holder, or a big nylon strap wrench around the crank pulley, wedged against the frame or ground (what I did when I removed mine). There's also a chain wrench that will hold the crank pulley, but it will leave little dents in the pulley which may potentially damage the belt.

*I've also heard of guys putting a big breaker bar on the crank bolt, wedging it on the ground or frame, and bumping the starter (like starting the truck with the key, but just for a second), but that's a good way to send a breaker bar through your radiator and/or ac condenser, and doesn't help when re-installing the pulley*

Not sure why they're showing it for different prices, but the black GM/Chrysler puller with the 3 straight, unthreaded rods is the one you want...the pics all look to be the same puller. Mine is in my in-law's garage, I'll be going over there today for Thanksgiving and I'll get the part number off of mine and post it up later

Oh yea, I checked out your link...looks like Amazon offers it from different suppliers, hence the variances in price. If I remember correctly, I got mine for somewhere between $55 and $65-ish at the time...just can't remember where, it was a few years ago.

I got the Snap-on puller, but from what I've seen the OTC looks like the exact same piece.

I wouldn't doubt that SPX-OTC makes them for SnapOn...they outsource alot of stuff.

Glad to hear you ate good!
Mee too! Diet was put on hold!
Thanks for the P/N. I will be buying it along with a 1/4"-3/8" TQ wrench.
I also need a flywheel holder or something equivelant. I want the actual tool that is.
Anyone one have advise where to buy one?
