Default Brake light ANYONE???

Has anyone ever got the Brake light in the intrument cluster go on!!! Mine did a little while back on my 01. I did a quick brake check and everything seems fine on them. I am wondering if there is some type of sensor for the brake pads telling one that it is time for a change. If i replace them think the light will go away. That pads have a good chunk of meat on them still.

When I replaced my front wheel bearing, I noticed there was a sensor built onto it. Maybe one of the sensors is going or gone bad on one of yours? My brake light stays on all the time now, because my ABS pump went out about 3 years ago, and I just unplugged it instead of paying the stupid amount of money the local dealership wanted for the pump.

What exactly broke? The pump or the sensor? If you broke the sensor that is attatched near the rotors then that could just be replaced. That sensor measures the acceleration (or deceleration of the wheel) of the wheel relative the speed of the car. If the computer reads that these numbers are not matching up based on calculations then it engages your ABS system. That is why your ABS lights are on. If you need to buy the pump good luck they are alot I would just live with it. As for getting rid of all the warnings, I have no idea how to get rid of them.

But as to my question its funny becuase the other day as I was driving a suburban had the same light on (brake light), and as I just was coming home right now a silverado also had the brake light on. So I hope that this does not become an epidemic like the fuel guage problem that so many people have including myself.

When you get that warning service brakes soon, where is it coming from. Is it from the message board or the individual messages on the cluster?
