Default Beds on the 1500 crews

Ok now I need this clearified since GM decided to confuse things for me but on a 99-07 1500 Crew did you have to get the HD to have the 78" standard bed. I hate the look of the short bed and you can't put crap in it so I want the standard bed but I want to know if all of them were HDs.

Also did all HDs have 8 lugs or was that certain years. The 1500HDs had the same suspension as the reg. 1500 right.

Sorry for all the ?s

John

The 1500hd had 8 lugs. I'm pretty sure it only came in crew cab 6.5 bed. I think it had the same suspension as the 2500.

There used to be a 2500 and a 2500hd. So there was a difference. I could be mixed up though, but I think the 1500hd replaced the 2500 (light duty).

The 1500HD and the 2500 were the same, just different nomenclature. But the 1500HD has a lighter frame than the HDs, but beefier than the 1500s. The biggie on it though is the 4l80e transmission and 9.5" rear end. That's pretty much why I think it's one of the more desirable models.

Sweet a fellow virginian.....well actually im from massachusetts but we've lived here for almost 15 years.

How does your dads truck drive. My dad had a 04 sclb GMC 1500 and that thing drove like a caddy (well maybe not that nice but it didnt drive like a truck) and it towed awesome (bonestock 5.3). My grandfather has a 05 Chevy 2500HD and it drives nice but not as good as my dads old GMC. I'm wondering how they drive compared to the 2. I'll also lower it a bit so that will probably help the ride a lil. Mainly I want a HD cause of the longer bed cause then I can still put a bike back there with out putting it crooked (my friend kevin has a 05ish 1500 chevy ecrb and his can fit a dirt bike but you cant shut the tailgate).

Don't forget the 6.0 . That was a bonus when I looked them up a while back since I was gonna convert a reg 1500 to a 6.0L/80E and stick a nice turbo on it (gotta love boost).

My '03 1500HD weighs 6200 lbs with me in it (175) and gets less than 15 miles per Canadian gallon (12.5 miles usg) average. (Do Love Boost)

Frame and suspension is heavier than a 1500 and ride is much firmer. It has the 6'6" short bed.

It is the same as a 2500 but only available in a CC 6.0L 4L80E 9.5" SF 14 bolt 8 lug. They sold both at the same time. Should have the same bed length as ECSB.

How does yours drive as far as like road noise and roughness. Ive never driven a regular 2500 but like I said my grandpa has a 2500HD and it did drive rougher than my dads 1500 but not too bad.
